Open-Top Railcar Loading
The RAC’s Mechanical Services Team offers training courses to shippers and railways on how to safely load open-top and closed railcars. These training sessions cover industry best practices, and help to ensure that Open Top Loading Rules and regulations are consistently applied. In addition to hands-on training, manuals and audio-visual materials help to ensure participants understand how to properly adhere to the rules.

- Weight and load distribution on rail cars
- Calculating load restraint
- Materials for load support and securement
- Load-measuring procedures
- Calculating combined center of gravity
- Overhanging loads
- Impact testing for new load configurations
