Railway Association of Canada releases 2011 Locomotive Emissions Monitoring report

The Railway Association of Canada (RAC) today released its 2011 report on greenhouse gases (GHG) and criteria air contaminants (CAC) emitted from locomotives operating in Canada. Locomotive Emissions Monitoring Program 2011 shows that, assuming that they maintain this level of performance, Canadian railways are on track to meet their 2015 GHG reduction targets, demonstrating solid fuel economy in light of increased freight volumes and passenger traffic.

Dangerous Goods Preparedness for Emergency Responders

Huron Central and RAC Dangerous Goods team members will meet with emergency responders (ER) in Echo Bay near Sault Ste. Marie, ON to update them on the Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER®) initiative. Railways work with ER personnel to ensure municipal emergency planners and responders are properly trained to work with industry experts and qualified contractors in developing emergency response

RAC Grows DG Team

Gary Bauer, based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan will be the RAC’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods Specialist covering Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Gary has an excellent background as an inspector, trainer and emergency responder and will apply these skills to the benefit of RAC member railways, rail customers and shippers along with the municipalities in Central Canada.

Exhibit Space, Sponsorships Sales Begin March 17 for RSI/CMA 2014

Exhibit space sales for RSI/CMA 2014, the Railway Supply Institute’s annual trade show, will begin Monday, March 17. Sponsorship sales for both RSI/CMA and Canadian Rail Summit 2014, hosted by the Railway Association of Canada, will also open March 17, conference organizers announced today.

Grade Crossing Regulatory Proposal

The Railway Association of Canada was consulted on the proposed regulatory proposal to increase safety at Canada’s federally regulated grade crossings and to reduce the incidence of deaths, injuries, property damage and environmental damage.

RAC supports TSB rail safety recommendations

The Railway Association of Canada (RAC) and its members fully support today’s recommendations put forth by the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) related to improving the safety of moving goods by rail. The industry will work collaboratively with regulators, unions and other stakeholders to ensure the most recent set of proposals become part of Canada’s deeply embedded rail safety culture.
