Nathan Cato is Assistant Vice President, Government Affairs – Canada at Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).
Nathan has held this role since April 14, 2023, when Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern merged to create the first and only Class 1 railway network uniting North America by seamlessly connecting Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
In this role, Nathan is responsible for CPKC’s government relations functions in Canada at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels; regulatory affairs; and Indigenous relations. He leads a team of highly capable and dedicated professionals.
Nathan also serves as the Vice-Chair of the board of directors for the Railway Association of Canada.
Nathan joined Canadian Pacific in January 2016 and has held progressively senior roles within the Government Affairs division. Previously, he served for six years in the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, as Director of Policy to the Minister of Citizenship & Immigration, and Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
Nathan grew up in St. Albert, Alberta. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of British Columbia and a master’s degree in political science from the University of Toronto.
Nathan and his wife, Erin, live in Ottawa.
