Employee Profile: Brianna Bowman
Senior Administrative Assistant
Within minutes of meeting Brianna Bowman, you quickly realize the spreading cheer is in her nature.
It’s what she does – at work and at home.
In normal times, hers is likely one of the first faces you would see in entering the Railway Association of Canada’s Ottawa offices.
“I am a people person, especially one-on-one and in small groups,” she says. “I love welcoming people, chit chatting to get to know them, getting them coffee.”
In the COVID era, her role as greeter-in-chief has evolved to take on a more technical aspect. She’s been learning different meeting platforms and getting colleagues trained, comfortable, and ready for committee meetings, corporate events, and business meetings.
While it was slightly out of her comfort zone at first, she’s “learning to really like it.”
Spreading cheer isn’t just a 9-to-5 pursuit.
Her 14-year-old daughter, Beyanca, is an elite cheerleader and coach, so she is often taxiing her from practices, competitions, and events around the world. (A trip to the world championships at Disney World in Florida was a COVID casualty.) Brianna is also the official “team mom.”
And, in what spare time she has, spreading cheer may soon become a side-business.
Brianna is considering turning her love of greeting cards into an online Etsy store.
“I love making Christmas cards especially,” she says. “If I get twenty minutes here and there, I will turn my attention toward a new creation and from July onwards, it’s almost all about Christmas.”
Brianna’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to open a home-based daycare after the birth of her second child, 10-year-old Jaxon.
Three years ago, she went back to college for a diploma in Executive Office Administration. She has been at the RAC for just over a year.
“No day is the same, each day is different. I am so grateful to be doing what I am doing. I love it – the people, the topics, the events.”
That positive attitude is infectious – in the best possible way.
