We hired close to 200 young people across all areas of the business, from technical and trades, to customer experience, locomotive engineers, and office staff, including 25 students. Young people are an important part of our future. They are inspiring careers for people in the rail industry.

Megan McLeod
Meet Megan McLeod, who interns for the Western Mechanical Division of CN Railway.
Megan is an electrical engineering student at the University of Alberta and plans to specialize in plasma and photonics in her final year.
Her career goal is to apply her knowledge as an electrical engineer in the field of energy and transportation.
James Martin Chavez
Meet James Martin Chavez, who started at CN last fall as an intern in the Mechanical function and recently joined full-time as a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer.
James graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. As a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer, he is responsible for preventive maintenance, optimization and improvement.
Martin Ortega
Meet Martin Ortega, who is doing an internship in the technical services department at VIA Rail.
He is a student of mechanical engineering at the École de technologie supérieure.
Martin is interested in railways, aeronautics, cars and cycling. He is particularly fascinated by sustainable development and green technologies.
Devyn Vincelli
Meet Devyn Vincelli, an intern with VIA Rail’s Real Estate & Facility Management team.
“I’m working part-time right now because I’m taking summer classes. When it comes to student internships, flexibility is key,” he explains.
Devyn is particularly interested in public transportation, especially passenger rail.
Juanita Aguirre Cadena
Meet Juanita Aguirre Cadena, a summer student in Environmental Operations at CPKC.
Juanita supports Environmental Operations with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications for environmental compliance projects and environmental audits.
Amanda Myerson
Meet Amanda Myerson, an Instructional Designer intern at VIA Rail.
Working in the Learning & Development, Employee Experience department, Amanda conducts needs assessments to create training programs. She supports the design and development of classroom and online training materials and is redesigning a customer service workshop for on-train service employees.
Sarah Chen
Meet Sarah Chen, a quality assurance summer student at CPKC.
Sarah’s responsibilities include automation, software testing, and documentation maintenance.
She is currently studying Engineering Science at the University of Toronto with the goal of becoming a fintech software engineer.
Liam Berzins
Meet Liam Berzins, a real estate summer student at CPKC.
Working in the Real Estate department, Liam is responsible for document control, analysis and other administrative tasks.
Liam attends the University of Calgary and is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) & BA in International Relations.
Quinlan Kane
Meet Quinlan Kane, a Hydrogen COE summer student at CPKC.
As an Engineering Assistant, he assists the mechanical and electrical teams with design work, test support, and 3D printer support.
Quinlan is currently studying mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo.
